Clean Beauty is the new Natural Beauty

Baby I was born this way

I’ve always stood by natural beauty. That’s not to say others cant enjoy the art of makeup, but I didn’t really ever learn to apply it & therefore tend to only wear a bit at times to accentuate my eyes when I go out. The rest of the time, I like to let nature run its course. Good or bad, it’s always been an easy decision for me & it hasn’t held me back at all.

I have had to develop a good skincare routine though. Please don’t assume that my skin is perfect. It most definitely isn’t, particularly around those hormonal splurges!

When I started to look at skincare ranges for Appletree and Avalon, I was very conscious that I wanted to keep the products 100% natural, easy to use & suitable for all skin types as much as possible. That way, I knew even someone like me would find them simple to use!

As pure as Nature intended

To me, Clean Beauty is defined by products that are mindfully created & produced without any proven or suspected toxic ingredients. Clean Beauty products include ingredients ethically sourced and are made with the health of our bodies and the environment in mind.

This means that the products won’t be pumped full of water, they wont include things like toxins or parabens & everything will be as pure as nature intended!

This is why as well as sourcing naturally curated products that are pure & good for your skin, I wanted to ensure that we only range products that are cruelty free. Anything we do stock, I have also genuinely tried before suggesting it could be suitable for our customers, because only then can I truly support the quality & offer you the advise you may be after.

The only thing I regret in life is probably that I should have started a routine years ago! I’m not even joking, most girls understand this stuff from the womb, but I have had to learn, the hard way! The first thing for me was finding a good cleanser. Whether you use morning and/ or night, it’s a really effective way of getting rid of all the pollutants from your pores on top of make up remover. Who knew so much grime is in the air?

Cleanse, Tone, Moisturise

I tend to now also add in toner to my routine to help with excess oil & spots. Even though, I am no longer a teenager, my hormones are not letting me get a break! This not only helps with breakouts but it soothes sensitive skin & repairs ageing skin as it contains mild astringent properties that can help shrink your pores while removing residual dirt & oil from your face. Just spritz over cleansed face in the morning & away you go! To be honest, you can use any time of day for an additional hydrating burst!

Moisturiser

Moisturiser is your best Friend!

Finally, grab yourself a good moisturiser. One that you can literally put anywhere! This cream here, is a luscious universal moisturiser & a total game changer. It not only helps you to feel simultaneously fresh & cool, it’s actually protective & is even great for treating skin irritation, eczema & acne.

Its soothing and cooling properties make it an excellent treatment for burns, wounds & inflammation

Finish with a Glow

It is a common misconception that putting oil on your skin makes your skin oily &this couldn’t be further from the truth. Your skin needs oil. By cleansing with an oil cleanser & following with facial oil this helps to balance out the skin’s natural oil levels. The principle being that oil dissolves oil, so the cleansing oil actually breaks down the dirt & grime in your face without stripping it of its natural lipids.

If you are used to having a squeaky clean feeling from alternative cleansers it’s probably because you’re actually stripping your skin of its natural oil, making it work extra hard to try and produce more. These are having completely the opposite desired effect!

Moving House

How to Move House more Sustainably

We ended up relocating (as many of you will know), so this wasn’t a small move for us We decided to relocate back to Derbyshire, where I personally grew up in the countryside! In this decision, we also chose to buy an older property, where it needed a lot of work. We felt this was a better option to a newer property, having weighed up the benefits for nature. It did mean that we were in for the long run & some very late nights however! We’ve been lucky in part, where we’ve managed to save money by uncovering wooden floors under old carpet. We live very minimally, so once the work has been done, we aren’t big tech folk, so we have lots of house plants & upcycled bits & bobs.

As we move into the New Year

I said last year that 2020 was the year for vision & it certainly gave us that. Chaos, destruction & grief all in 12 months. Helping us to see how fragile our world is & how delicate our lives depend on the rest of the world.

The appreciation of nature grew & we all enjoyed the outdoors more than we ever realised. Yearning for a freedom, that for some (including us) is still not in clear sight.

If I have one wish for 2021, its that we now all start taking action. We’ve moved on so much over the last few years, with more & more people becoming aware of their impact & changing their lifestyle for the future of our planet.

It is within us to change & we hold the power to do so, for our future, for our planet, for our children, for nature.

2020 the year we all stopped

2020 The year everyone’s talking about

This week Sir David Attenborough signed up to Instagram for the first time to help spread his environmental message.

“I am making this move… because, as we all know, the world is in trouble,” he said in his first video message on the social media platform.

“Continents are on fire. Glaciers are melting. Coral reefs are dying… The list goes on and on,” he continued.

Within an hour of his first post, he had more than 200,000 followers, and by 16:15 BST he had 1.2m followers!! Let’s hope more people start listening now

“Saving our planet is now a communications challenge,” the veteran broadcaster said.
